It is definitely interesting times for digital film-makers, our friends at Wired have even done a cover story on it, so it must be cool. The latest film to jump the “intertainment” bandwagon is ?Home Page? and internet-themed documentary by Doug Block which will debut online in three weeks, ahead of its theatrical release next month. The film, which premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, will screen on iFILM beginning November 12th, a week before it opens at the Cinema Village in New York City &√Ǭ£45;- at the same time the film will be available for sale on videotape through an aggressive e-commerce strategy. The announcement offers a unique model for filmmakers seeking to incorporate an online release into their overall distribution strategy. “For producers to think that getting theatrical distribution is worth giving up their broadband and video rights, well, they are wrong,” Block explained plainly, “Trust your instincts and not old models &√Ǭ£45;- I would have been one depressed puppy if I had taken that distribution deal.“If you haven’t already, do a search for “digital film” and see what you find, you never know, you might just get the binary bug.[IndieWIRE contributed to this report]
