It seems that the race for broadband is on as new media get into position for an all out attack. The latest format to get its hands dirty is a new radio frequency that allows wireless transmission systems to send and receive data without errors at speeds up to 10 megabits per second. This is equivalent to a wired Ethernet network and it’s IBM doing the plugging in.The unique nature of this technology, is that it operates on pulses rather than radio waves and hence requires a fraction of the power to operate than current cellphones and other wireless devices. As a result, power consumption is much less and opens opportunities for it to be used on wristphones and low-end consumer products. All is not rosey though, as there are reports that an inventor from a small technology company in Atlanta claims he was the originator of the system and that IBM effectively stole the idea from him. Who cares, if he gets a fat cheque from Big Blue and we get some new toys to play with.
