Calling all animators, gamers and graphic designers! Channel 4 wants your digital films for this year's Mesh project. For those who only think of mesh as a means of locking up chickens, Mesh is Channel 4's cutting edge digital and interactive animation scheme. The project was set up four years ago in conjunction with NESTA as the first ever national scheme to nurture new talent specifically within the field of computer nerd-dom. The scheme is encouraging talented directors (funny how no one ever asks for untalented neophytes) to bombard them with ideas for 3 minute digital animations which test the medium to its extremes and provides an interactive aspect for the web: the wackier the better. To give you a feel for the high level of innovation required, the website allows you to peruse the films from years one and two, as well as checking on the progress of the six directors who were shortlisted last year. Successful applicants will have their ideas funded by Channel 4. The mind-bending results will then be screened on the channel of the fourth place and streamed on the Mesh website at the end of next year. For further info and details of how to apply head for the Mesh website. But get your digital skates on - the closing date for entries is 19th September 2003.
