The Socialist Workers Party are looking to capitalise on opposition to the war in Iraq with this year's Marxism conference. Kicking off today with a rally in north London, they're covering all bases with six full days of the usual lectures and meetings on revolution, history and why the media (that's us) are lying to you. With flyposters all over the place they've got a higher profile than previous years and have plenty of names you'll recognise. Saturday sees Private Eye's Paul Foot marking this week's 75th anniversary of women getting the vote with a talk on the history of British democracy and George Galloway asking what alternatives there are to New Labour (a question he of all people is surely qualified to answer). Also look out for Tony Benn on Sunday, Mark Thomas on Monday and Tariq Ali on Wednesday. All meetings are in and around the University of London Union. Check the website for details.
