Flight tests of the brand new Russian carrier vehicle Angara in the Plesetsk launching site are scheduled for 2010-2011.Angara’s engine RD-191 consumes a kerosene-oxygen mix and is ecologically friendly. Flights are expected to begin with testing unified systems and devices for the whole family of eco-friendly Angara carriers — both light and heavy vehicles, a Plesetsk launching site representative said. Assemblage of the heavy carrier vehicle will make possible the launching of space ships to higher orbits than they are launched today, and with greater working loads. Angara’s launching pad consists of 16 elements, which weigh between 20 and 50 tons, and is 14 m wide and over 5 m high. The unified launching complex allows putting working loads of 26 tons (“Proton” carrier launches only 20 tons) to low orbits and working loads of 4.5 tons to geostationary orbits.
