Quintetto is the latest project by Fabio Di Salvo and Bernardo Vercelli aka Quiet Ensemble. Winner of third prize at the International Contemporary Art Prize - Celeste Prize, Quintetto is an installation based on the study of the casual movement of fish used as input for the production of sounds. Quiet Ensemble calls these casual movements "invisible concerts", and these concerts can be anything from walking to the subway or driving to work, anywhere there is a conceptual relationship between the natural and built environment.
How it works is that there are 5 vertical aquariums each holding a fish and a video camera records its movements which are then translated into sounds through a computer software. As the fish moves around, digital sounds signals are created and with 5 different instruments the fish become the conductors of a live concert. Watching the concerts makes them no longer "invisible" and in return asks the viewer to think about the soundtrack to their own lives. More images and information here.
