Philips Electronics continues a strategic alliance with WebTV Networks with the launch of the first Philips Magnavox Internet TV Terminal.
"The impressive sales of WebTV Plus indicate that consumers have embraced this convergence appliance," said Lisa Haley, Philips Consumer Electronics Company. Philips, a founding co- licensee of the product, designed the WebTV Plus Receiver for consumers who want to get the most out of their TV viewing experience. With easy access to both television programming and the Internet for unique program information and other content, Philips' innovative product seamlessly integrates television viewing and Web browsing in a high performance, yet user-friendly, technology package.
Users will be able to watch their favorite television shows while connected to the Web, instantly access Web site links embedded in television programs and commercials, and enjoy enhanced graphics and performance every time they log on to WebTV.
"Users can watch their favorite TV show and retrieve their E-mail at the same time without ever having to leave their living room couch," Haley said. "DigitalTV is the ultimate entertainment and information tool for today's busy consumers." The receiver comes with an Electronic Program Guide (EPG) that allows users to receive text and video information about all the programs available on their TV system. The EPG is updated daily from the Web and is continuously available to the user, while both on and offline.
The possibilities are endless and tremendously exciting," Haley said. Web Eye Remote Infrared Receiver Philips is the only manufacturer of the Web Eye, a remote infrared receiver and LED display that provides unmatched flexibility and ease of use. This unique Web Eye, is a small saucer-like receiver that sits atop the user's television set, allowing the larger receiver box to be placed under a couch, behind a plant, hidden or behind the television.
