Nortel has launched the rather long winded DV-MPEG SD7000 broadcast-quality codec for contribution applications. Compliant with MPEG-2 standards, the newest addition to Nortel's video portfolio will allow broadcasters to transport compressed video signals over standards-based telecommunication networks without compromising the video quality.
The new DV-MPEG SD7000 is designed for
broadcast environments, specifically for contribution transmission, remote special events and news coverage applications. With a codec at a remote location and one at a central office or broadcast facility, the compressed video signal can be carried over a SONET/SDH or ATM backbone, delivering contribution quality back to the broadcast facility for further editing and final distribution.
"With this new product Nortel will now offer broadcasters a high-quality video codec which will enable them to bridge the gap between traditional TV broadcasting and efficient SONET/SDH or ATM-based transport," said Richard Romagnino, general manager, Video Networks, Nortel. "The end result is a high quality image delivered via an efficient feature-rich video network."
Nortel's DV-MPEG SD7000 will have a unique feature set to address the specific needs of the broadcasting industry including four-audio-channel support, adaptive comb filtering, DVB compliance, selectable 4:2:0/4:2:2 operation, and more.
