For those of you fortunate enough to have been around when hip hop was making it’s first tentative steps into the collective mainstream, you may be shocked to hear that former Furious Five member Melle Mel seems to have nothing but distain for the likes of Rakim, KRS-One and Tupac Shakur. While most would have no problem in saying all three are among hip hop’s elite, during a recent appearance on Power 105.1's morning show with hosts Star and Bucwild in New York, Mel told stunned listeners that Ra was, "overrated with no stage presence." He then added that he, "wouldn't put him in his Top 10 and that Rakim doesn't have the talent to drop a modern day Hip-Hop hit." According to SOHH.com Mel then went on to say that, "people were blinded if KRS-One was their face of Hip-Hop." Kris was luckier than Ra and "barely scraped" Mel's Top 10. The aging MC saved his most scathing attack till last, comparing Shakur to none other than Hitler and said the fraudulent images that Pac portrayed "brought down an entire culture." …I sense that just a little lack of attention may be the cause of Melle Mel’s random outburst, but I can’t see him winning over any new friends after this rant!
