Following the “big week” for both these companies, the analyst are now predicting what all this means now the dust has begun to settle - and it looks good for AOL.

Its acquisition of Netscape is expected to give America Online, already the largest dial-up online service, a huge advantage in competing in the online media and electronic commerce markets. Industry analyst James F. Moore of Geopartners Inc. says, “Acquiring Netscape would really enhance America Online’s role as the premier Internet media company. America Online is assembling the kind of audience that will convince people the Internet is becoming a mainstream media.”

How will the merger work? Gene DeRose of the Jupiter Communications consulting company explains that there is a culture clash between the two companies: “AOL has been a driven and focused consumer marketing company. But they’ve had an uneasy relationship with technology. Steve Case [AOL’s chief executive] has always said, ‘I don’t care where the technology is; we just have to be where the action is.’”
