Back in the day journals were where explorers collected their travels findings, young girls wrote about the man of their dreams and scientists scribbled down game-changing equations. Today in this type-tap culture, we’re lucky if we even remember how to feel comfortable writing with a pen.

Created by San Francisco based Brian Singer, the project once called 1000 Journals now ten years later has countless notebooks which have traveled to over 40 countries. Recently fifteen of these journals were chosen and are currently on view at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. With a book, a DVD and various exhibits already showcased the concept has now expanded to include 1001 Journals - 10 new journals with cover designs by local artists will be included, allowing for visitors to keep in the tradition of adding their own writings, drawings, lyrics or collages.

Broken up into three categories; traveling, location and personal, each interested party visits the online website to sign up and attach themselves to the flow. It's much like those old school chain letters; you receive a journal, are given two weeks to bust out creativity then asked to mail it on to the next person on the list. Tag, you’re it!
