The UK media massive known as Modified follows on from their previous play things, frEQuency and Chillas, with Evolver.
This ECD adds 40 minutes of surroundsound CD audio tracks to over 250Mb of full-screen interactive videographics and audio. You can change any element of audio tracks in realtime, to produce your own eight-track remixes. In addition, user-customised samples, graphics and digital videos can also be imported in realtime to ensures no two plays are ever the same.
Also from Modified comes PhatBoy 1.0 (excellent name) which is a unique realtime four-track sample mixer as Joe Maas, Head of Music Development explains, "With PhatBoy, users can produce their own 'groove-cruisers' - smart, generative music apps which evolve over time to produce ever-changing background music. Its drag and drop authoring requires no programming. 'So phat it's fit to burst', is how we
lovingly refer to the phat little phunker".
Evolver ECD is released in May 1998 for £24.99 ($39.99 outside Europe) on CD digital audio, Windows 95 and Power Macintosh platforms. PhatBoy 1.0 is available for download now as a 7-day free trial version for Windows 95 and Power Macintosh, upgradeable for only £9.99 ($15.99 outside Europe).
