Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group, today revealed the secrets of online branding. Speaking exclusively to Silicon.com, Branson said he would use an innovative customer service strategy to bring his reputation as the people’s champion with him online. He explained: “I think the Internet is going to make the most radical difference to customers that will happen in the next century. I mean, customers are going to be able to get the best prices that they’ve ever got, and if they go to the right sites they’ll have people recommending what’s good and what’s not. So it needn’t just be price-driven, it can be quality-driven as well.“Branson plans to re-launch Virgin.com in February and said he intends to make it the best British portal on the Web. Although he did not confirm that the new site would offer independent sales advice, he made it clear that this would make the difference between a good site and a mediocre one. Branson added: “We wouldn’t go online unless we were absolutely sure that it would enhance the Virgin image, not damage it. We believe that what we’re planning to do online will enhance the Virgin image and improve the trust.” ? Silicon.com
