The Green King of the paper back, Amazon.com has announced a quadrupling of sales as the online bookseller continued to extend its lead. Analysts were impressed. "Almost everything jumped out on the positive side," said Dalton Chandler, an analyst with Needham & Company.

But more interestingly, Amazon has also notched up $14.4 million in sales of music in the first full quarter since it got into the business. That makes it the biggest music vendor on the Web, as well as a 4% share of the traditional market as well. "I think it's incredibly significant that they were a late-comer to the music market and they're already the leader," said Henry Blodget of CIBC Oppenheimer.
