SGI is to move a 3D authoring package, previously available only to high-end Silicon Graphics workstation users, to within reach of potentially millions of Windows NT and 95 Web developers.
Cosmo Software, an SGI subsidiary, has released Cosmo Worlds 2.0, an award-winning 3D graphics authoring tool that supports VRML 2.0 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language), to Windows-based Web hackers. The package lets those developers create and preview 3D imagery for applications such as animation at entertainment sites, or complex 3D modeling applications for intranets, such as a oil-rig simulator.
The company says that Cosmo Worlds 2.0 represents the first opportunity that Windows-based developers have to work with the entire VRML authoring process. Cosmo Worlds 2.0 will cost $999.
