How do you learn to ride a bicycle by discussing gravity? When does ill defined polymorphous passion become dangerous? Does self -absorption really bring about innovation? What is the obvious solution to the symbolic problem?

Arthouse announces the World Wide Web site Self Rescue Mechanism which is the most recent addition to its on-line exhibitions.

Working simultaneously in Dublin and New York, Alan Phelan and James Dingilian are using a WWW site as the focal point for this collaborative project. The site is a place between ideas and objects, a scrapbook, where thoughts , stories and plans are recorded and worked through. The public are also invited to work along with the artists, chat with them, write stories and submit suggestions. This dialogue will shape the final outcome of the installation which will include various objects, pictures, interventions, video and sound works.

James Dingilian and Alan Phelan will install Self Rescue Mechanism in Arthouse, opening February 20 to March 19 1998.
