In a bold move to promote the Internet as a way for local people to participate in creating music, the Eastern Orchestral Board (EOB) has launched a web site that will relay images and music from a collaborative music project, On The Edge.
Young people from youth centres in Hertfordshire will be working alongside EOB’s Innovations Composer, Tunde Jegede, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s creative music ensemble ‘Sharp Edge’, from Club 21st Century, vocalist and DJ Cleveland Watkiss (Jazz Warriors & Project 23) and bassist Oroh Angiama.
The site provides those taking part in the series of workshops with a way of sharing their musical ideas with other [articipants, local schools and professional musicians. Users will be able to download audio from the workshops, re-purpose them and upload the results with comments creating a music and text based threaded discussion. The first of the workshop projects started in St Albans on 3rd March. Three further projects and a residency will be taking place between April and May in Baldock, Hemel Hempstead Stevenage and Bishops Stortford. So if you fancy jamming some serious tech with some top class music bods, get yourself together and get On The Edge, or something like that.
