They got us drunk for free last night [even though the beer ran out at 10:30], so we thought we better give those onedotboys a good plug for their “unmissable ... innovative digitally-inflected ... cutting edge ... edgiest ... fragmentary, free-wheeling festival ... showcasing the most most vital ... digital ... stuff.”
Starting today Friday till May 9th in the ICA, London, the line-up has come on leaps and bounds from last year’s event. As a result there is far too much to fit in the filter feed this Friday, we’ve just covered some of the “bigger” happenings for you.
New this year is a selection of features and long form work from the likes of Grant Gee’s “Meeting People Is Easy” Radiohead “rockumentary” which we saw at the preview screening and thoroghly enjoyed. Also up is Sneaker’s “Size Isn’t Everything” and Goldie’s “When Saturn Returnz”, not really features, but still, put them back to back and they make for a good evening’s entertainment. “Perfect Blue” by Satoshi Kon is billed as a the “first feature-length Japanese animation film to deal with contemporary rather than futuristic themes”, whatever that means. It is mix of social commentary and disturbing psychological thriller, driving the film to a violent and unexpected conclusion. Hmmm.
The compliation programmes are also extensive. Expect new work from ISO, DOTMOV, Andy Martin, OS2, Spin, Film Unit AV, Shynola, Intro, Honey Brothers, Felt, and Butler Brothers.
Also, lots of funky fresh music videos, 3D sequences and digital effects. There’s also parties, panels and all the pukka people in the place to be, so get with the new breed and onedotblag it.
