As the DV format begins to take hold of the prosumer video and film market, Radius and Media100 have announced new products to fuel the force of the firewire revolution.
Radius will be offering a scaled down version of its EditDV video editing package. EditDV Unplugged will be offered for $99 and according to a press statement, EditDV Unplugged is available free to download as an introductory offer.
EditDV Unplugged, is a single-track, non-linear editing tool designed to help DV camcorder users easily and affordably create high quality video. It is based on Radius' award-winning EditDV and uses FireWire (IEEE 1394) hardware for the transfer of digital video to and from DV camcorders. Users wishing to take advantage of additional features, such as professional quality special effects, compositing, animation and unlimited video and multiple audio tracks, can upgrade to EditDV for $599.
Radius also announced a new EditDV Pro to bring "together all the tools and support professionals desire in a superior desktop editing package. It will support pro DV cameras and decks, such as Sony DVCam, Panasonic DVCPro and Canon XL-1."
EditDV Pro is to ship in Q4 of 1998 and will retail for $1999. The package will include two 4.5 meter FireWire cables (one 6-6pin and one 4-6pin) to support all types of pro decks, the Radius FireWire card, MotoDV, PhotoDV and EditDV 1.5.
On to Media 100, who have (finally) announced plans to add support for new digital standards such as DV and SDI to its Mac Media 100 product line. The company said it will move its products to support DV (digital video) and SDI (serial digital interface) to create all digital start to finish editing environments. Media 100 said it plans to ship DV products this winter that will support FireWire (IEEE 1394) standards.
The company also said it plans to ship SDI solutions in Q1 of 1999. According to Media 100, the SDI solutions will enable customers to integrate media from a variety of both analog and digital sources without external transcoders.
