The latest numbers from the Independent Television Commission are out and about. The main interesting facts show that, "one in ten of all UK households now take their television service through broadband cable. As of 1 January 1998, 2,374,000 homes were connected to cable TV." The report goes on to say, "that 1997 was a record breaking construction year for the broadband cable industry. Broadband cable services are now available to 10,694,000 UK homes, nearly a third of which (32.7%0 are taking a cable service of some kind from their local operator."

For me the most interesting news for the cable industry came from Cable & Wireless at the Production Show last week. They were displaying their new DigiReels technology for video transfer between agencies on the back of the news that they had just signed a deal with NC to provide 2Mb broadband connections to the home. Mmmmmmmmm, yes please.
