A Mexican hacker team has been deployed by the Mexican Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), to search out a list of beneficiaries to a controversial, multi-billion bank rescue fund.A PRD deputy said she had asked hackers to crack a password held by the ruling party in order to access the list following claims that several of the beneficiaries were linked to the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) which is expected to face its fiercest electoral test to date at the forthcoming July 2 presidential elections.Dolores Padierna, of the PRD, said her decision to seek help from hackers followed the PRI’s refusal to reveal the password. (They wouldn’t be getting away with that in the UK, now would they?) Padierna said the PRI’s password was the only one missing to access the list compiled last year by independent Canadian auditor Michael Mackey at the request of the Chamber of Deputies.Mackey gave each of the congressional parties one pasword after completing his probe of FOBAPROA, the government’s deposit insurance fund that absorbed as much as 65 billion of dollars in bad loans during the 1995 peso crisis.
Padierna said Mackey also held one of the six passwords needed to access the information, but that the hackers had already accessed it. ‘We found Mackey’s password, so we should be able to find the PRI’s,’ she commented.
