Exit Art will showcase the work of 5 young visual artists alongside the art of 1980's visionaries including William Wegman, Jean- Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois and Jenny Holzer. The back gallery will be converted into an alternative screening environment with seating for over 200 people on sofas and large comfortable chairs. Feature films from 10 independent filmmakers (including "Niagara Niagara" with Robin Tunney and Henry Thomas, "Basquiat" with Jeffrey Wright, David Bowie & Dennis Hopper, and "Colin Fitz" with Martha Plimpton and William H. Macy) will be screened as double features with 10 influential classics from the 1980's.
In addition to the feature films, top short independent films from past festivals will be screened. These will be played throughout the day and between the scheduled full-length films. All films will be screened on a high quality video projection system.
EXIT ART will be air-conditioned at all times (noon - midnight). Each evening the front gallery will be transformed into a cabaret- like performance area with an eclectic collection of musicians, storytellers, spoken word poets, and comedy acts. Performers will include comedian Jim Gaffigan and spoken-word artist and star of award-winning Sundance film "Slam" Saul Williams, among others.
