With Selfridges adopting Brasil as its cultural hotspot for the whole of May and the weather threatening to act like summer, Spearfish have decided to hog a whole street to themselves in the name of European relations and have named it Eurocultured. In conjunction with several Euro-orientated partners, including EasyJet, Creative Partnerships and Arts Council England, the two-day event aims to bring European arts to New Wakefield Street in Manchester and its surrounding venues (taking up European personas – with national dress? – especially for the day) with the help of several European artists. The aim is a celebration of European culture with contributions from a varied selection of art mediums, from live music and DJs to live visual art, design, dance and street performers and even food and drink. View image With the promise of artists from France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and, not forgetting our humble islands, the UK and a combination of performance and workshops, Eurocultured promises to deliver a more cerebral and artistic experience than usually offered on Bank Holiday weekends. Even the young ‘uns are invited to indulge their artistic sides (hopefully without the tantrum temperance) with a section devoted to young talent on Bank Holiday Monday from 12 ‘til 4pm. The focus of the festival is interaction and communication at a time when the Euro debate still rages and the European Union becomes further expanding. If you're looking for cultural unity incorporating cultural diversity Eurocultured takes place on Sunday 30th May from 12pm-8pm and Monday 31st May from 12pm-6pm on New Wakefield Street, City centre, Manchester.
