Blue Dingo Digital, the interactive division of Grybauskas Beatrice ad agency, has landed the Tommy Boy Records account. Blue Dingo President Joe Beatrice says his company actively pursued the label because of Tommy Boy's dominance in the hip-hop marketplace.
"The site will be for anyone who's into hip-hop," Beatrice explains, "and Tommy Boy practically wrote the book on it."
Tommyboy.com, which is scheduled to launch within the month, will be delivered in phases. Appearing tomorrow in homepage form only, the first phase will primarily support the release of the 56-track compilation celebrating the success of Tommy Boy to date.
The special compilation will be sold on the site through a proprietary ecommerce solution built by the 28-person Blue Dingo. Beatrice says the label is looking to implement a custom CD store so fans can create their own compilations.
When asked about the online prevalence of a supporting hip-hop demographic, Beatrice quipped, "Hey, there's a whole lot of 16- year-old white boys in the suburbs checking out Coolio, and going online to do it. The cross-over of hip-hop is enormous, especially nowadays."
