At MACWORLD/EXPO, Elecede Technologies, Inc. (also known as E4) announced its CoolDVD DVD-ROM Upgrade Kit for Mac OS. This is the first plug-and-play DVD solution for Mac OS computers that supports the full DVD specification and can play commercial DVD discs.

The kit includes a PCI interface card, a DVD-ROM drive, driver software, and an application for playing DVD discs; this kit works on Mac OS computers with Mac OS 8, 16 MB of memory, and a PowerPC 604/120 MHz processor or better. According to Business Wire (see URL below), CoolDVD will be available in North America on January 22 at a price of $US 499.
