We don’t usually do bookmarks, but this really is an exception. Sodaplay’s Constructor is a marvellous feat of software engineering that allows you, the average user, to create wireframe model creatures and then play with them, tweak them, excite them and generally make their little lives a misery within the confines of Soda’s environment. Pick up your beastie and watch its legs twitch wil alarm! Reverse gravity and chortle as it falls onto the roof! Rearrange its legs and snicker meanly as it limps about desparately. It really is all very compelling, making it far from suprising that the soda server is being pounded with hits from folks eager to mess around with their critters. ‘250,000 of you were constructing last week,’ say the Soda people, ‘and it’s growing week by week.’ Apparently some people have been writing in to complain that they can’t stop playing with the software. ‘It seems that some of you have been playing with sodaconstructor for hours. We regret that soda can accept no liabilty for loss of earnings incurred while building sodaconstructor creatures,’ say the company. Sodaconstructor is a strange beast: a Java applet that works first time, doesn’t throw up any error messages, and loads very quickly. There is no need for any additional downloads, and you’ll be beetling away on new creatures in a very short space of time. Did you have anything important to do today? Better start thinking of your excuses now…That URL again: sodaplay.com/constructor/. Altogether now: We Want A Save Function, We Want A Save Function, We Want A Save Function…
