Wired and Dangerous is a 2-day conference exploring the impact of technology on the creative process. The sixth and final conference in the Get Wired series, it also forms part of the 2000-2001 Year of the Artist celebrations. ‘The technological revolution is having an enormous impact on the arts and creative industries,’ say the organisers. ‘As during the Renaissance, artists are coming out of their ivory towers to engage with science and commerce.’ Taking this notion of the creative meeting the technological as a start point, the programme brings together artists, commentators, arts managers and others to ‘create a “safe” environment in which the mainstream arts community can embrace technology and vice versa.‘If that sounds interesting to you, you might check some of the participants. The Redundant Technology Initiative will be there, as will the multimedia performance artists Blast Theory, presumably showing off their new cooperative gaming environment. There will also be a consultancy on intellectual property rights and project funding, and a (brilliantly named) Digital Disco ‘fusing music, art, film and digital technology’. The whole thing takes place at the Richard Attenborough Centre, Leicester, Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 July.
