Version 4 of the Opera web browser is now available. Never heard of it? Well then, you’re missing out on the best browser out there…Opera’s browser, which has established itself as the ‘third browser’ on the Web alongside Netscape’s (messy) Navigator and Microsoft’s (bulky) Internet Explorer, is smaller, faster, more configurable, more secure, and more standard-compliant than its competitors. The code was started from scratch without the use of any Mosaic coding, in 1994. Over the last two years, the core technology has been rewritten to become platform-independent. The development of the software has focused on creating a browser that is fast, small, secure, user-friendly, configurable and standards-compliant - qualities that Redmond finds it curiously difficult to reproduce under laboratory conditions. Stable and usable on slow computers, Opera has already gathered something of a cult following. For all the geeks out there wanting hardcore spec, the newest version supports Java 2, ECMAScript & Javascript 1.3, CSS 1 & 2, HTML 4, SSL 2 & 3, TLS 1.0, HTTP 1.1 & 128bit encription. So there, and no whining about lack of standards support, please. Opera, the way it’s done today: www.operasoftware.comOr straight to the download.
