Green Party Presidential candidate Ralph Nader is asking ICANN for the Top Level Domains ‘.sucks’ ‘.complaints’, and ‘.isnotfair’. He’s hoping to secure the rights of free speech online…Nader wants to set up the TLDs and then sell off domain space to folk wanting to get even with the evil corporation. But by barring organizations that own a particular domain name from utilizing the ‘.sucks’ version of that domain name, he also hopes that the move might  prevent large companies from curtailing avenues for criticism before they’ve even been opened. Nice idea: but at the $50,000 price for each punt on a TLD set by ICANN, Nader is going to have come up with some pretty serious cash if he wants to take them out of the realms of comedy. The Dot Sucks Foundation would receive all the money raised by selling access to these domain names. This money, Nader says, would then be used to assist in the funding of online free-speech arguments. Other Nader-proposed top-level domains include the less batshit (and more likely to be passed, it must be said) ‘.union’ and ‘.customers’, the latter of which would be utilised ‘to create democratically managed membership organizations of the customers of particular companies.’
