Following Virgin Atlantic's successful launch of their onboard SMS texting and email facilities last September, Lufthansa has launched the first broadband internet connection in the sky and British Airways is piloting a similar scheme. One of the German airline's 747-400 fleet has been equipped to provide passengers in all cabins with internet connection via their own laptop or one provided by the airline. During the three-month trial, the service, dubbed FlyNet, will be provided free of charge to passengers on flights LH418 and LH419 between Frankfurt and Washington Dulles. Next month, BA is due to commence trials of internet and email access at 35,000ft. The system will be available to passengers also for a three-month trial on one 747-400 operating the London Heathrow-New York route. Nice. Link
