The UK Film Council is set to spend £13m on equipping 200-250 screens in around 150 cinemas with high-end digital technology to promote the wider distribution of specialised film. Screendigest.com comments: "Let that sentence sink in. Now re-read it. I can think of no bigger news since the revelation of the existence of the seven Hollywood studios' digital-cinema joint venture. In years to come this will either come to be seen as a bold stroke of inspired thinking on how to rejuvenate the art-house sector with the aid of new technology, or as a premature act of digital-cinema folly." Now I know where my gambling losses go!
