# Twelfth Man

With the Olympics rapidly approaching, it seems there is no better time than now to celebrate London's urban sportsmen in all their glory. Taking up the challenge are photographers [Dylan Collard](http://www.dylancollard.com/?ref=protein.xyz) and [Matt Cottis](http://iyastudio.co.uk/?ref=protein.xyz), whose collaborative project '[Twelfth Man](http://www.sportcitylondon.co.uk/?ref=protein.xyz)' seeks to explore the various ways in which communities are engaging with sport.

The duo have documented, amongst others, local cricket team [Kennington CC](http://www.sportcitylondon.co.uk/kencc.php?ref=protein.xyz) in their whites, early morning swimmers in the [Serpentine](http://www.sportcitylondon.co.uk/serpentine.php?ref=protein.xyz) (including Serpentine Alan), [Kennington football club](http://www.sportcitylondon.co.uk/kenfoot.php?ref=protein.xyz) and the[ Poplar Rowing](http://www.sportcitylondon.co.uk/poplar.php?ref=protein.xyz) crew. The urban backdrop to the photos is a reminder of the multitude of sporting rituals that exist amongst the city's hustle and bustle, continuing due to the passion of the individuals involved. As they explain, 'The sport, the architecture and the neighbourhood may change, but the common thread binding these photographs together are the people. Wherever the place, whatever the weather and whatever the sport, without them the game ceases to exist.'
