# Truth to Materials

**Outdoor clothing brand** [**Patagonia**](http://www.patagonia.com/?ref=protein.xyz) **are the latest brand to launch a new ethical collection made entirely from reclaimed fabrics.**  
  
For [Truth to Materials](http://www.patagonia.com/us/truth-to-materials?ref=protein.xyz), Patagonia have poached Italian wool merchant Bernado Calamai, whose family business Figli di Michelangelo Calamai have been producing reclaimed wool fabrics since 1878.  
  
The whole collection is made from off-cuts from the factory floor as well as damaged jackets, unwanted woollen jumpers and cotton scraps. Patagonia certainly aren’t the first clothing brand to up-cycle off-cuts but they're perhaps one of the most established to create a premium line to salvage an otherwise waste product.   
  
In a similar example of material management, for [London Design Festival](http://www.londondesignfestival.com/?ref=protein.xyz), designers [Matteo Fogale](http://matteofogale.com/?ref=protein.xyz) and [Laetitia de Allegri](http://laetitiadeallegri.com/?ref=protein.xyz) have created [\-ISH](http://www.londondesignfestival.com/events/ish?ref=protein.xyz), a range of furniture and tableware made from three up-cycled composite materials - Slate-ish, Denimite and Marblus – that look just like premium stone goods. The end products are quite remarkable, considering their origins.
