# The Memorabilia Factory

Using a harmless bacteria called *Sporosarsina pasteurii* to calcify sand into various shapes, designers William Boujon and Julien Benayoun of [Bold-Design](http://bold-design.org/?ref=protein.xyz) have created a DIY structure making kit called The Memorabilia Factory.

The idea came about as part of the [Design Exquis](http://www.designexquis.org/?ref=protein.xyz) project, wherein one team of designers pass on an idea to serve as inspiration for the next team (similar to the recently featured [15Folds](http://prote.in/feed/2012/11/15folds?ref=protein.xyz)). With the intention of denouncing the idea that all bacteria is harmful, as well as looking for a way to recreate the naturally formed Stromatolites of Australia, the design duo came up with a series of models that each represent various famous rock formations from around the world, including Durdle Door in Dorset and the Kho Phi Phi islands in Thailand.
