Standing at the vanguard of a new revolution in digital filmmaking and distribution, Wavelength Releasing has announced their first all-digital international release of a feature film and high definition short.

First covered way back in issue 049 of the feed, The Last Broadcast, is the first digital feature film in history released to theatres without celluloid and by satellite and will be released in tandem with a high-definition short:

Protest; by S.D. Katz and Pitch Inc. at The Director’s Guild of America (DGA) in New York, on May, 15, 1999\. International stops to follow will include: the Cannes Film Festival, London, Dublin and Stockholm.

“What we’ve done with The Last Broadcast from start to finish has been ground breaking and now the industry is taking note,” Lance Weiler Co-Founder of WLR modestly conceeds. “Digital filmmaking and e-cinema are becoming a reality. A great example is George Lucas’ announcement to roll out Star Wars Episode I on four screens electronically.

He plans to shoot the next Star Wars installment digitally. It becomes more apparent everyday that what we’ve been pioneering over the last two years has changed the face of the industry.”

It sure is going to be an interesting time getting those “bums on seats”.
