Animated gifs have recently emerged as a hugely creative medium for photographers. We're big fans at Protein, so we were excited to see new gif-based work by Texas-born artist Ignacio Torres. The series of animated photographs called Stellar are inspired by the relationship between humans and cosmic matter. Each photograph shows a subject in a moment of movement surrounded by a cloud of cosmic dust.

We experimented with animated gifs recently at our Animate Everything exhibition, which took place at our 18 Hewett Street gallery. We commissioned 'gif-fiti' artist and longtime friend of Protein INSA to create an exciting animated gif based on real-life graffiti artworks on the side of our gallery. As animated art becomes the latest fixation, we look forward to seeing more animated gif projects bringing online photography to life.
