California-based [Sun Microsystems](http://www.sun.com/?ref=protein.xyz) released its Unix-based operating system Solaris 10 for free. Nice Sun is also planning to make the software source code available via an open-source license, Web Host said. The move is designed to boost demand for Sun servers and services, as well as software for the Solaris platform. While the software is free, Sun will charge subscription fees for support services and programs. Solaris 10 cost $500 million to develop and includes more than 600 new features, Sun said.
