Brainchild of Los Angeles-based creative studio [We Are Matik](http://wearematik.com/work/?ref=protein.xyz), the [Smile-Bot](http://wearematik.com/work/smile-bot/?ref=protein.xyz) is a playful invention with only one purpose in mind: to instill some happiness by making people smile more.   
  
Using facial recognition technology and a smile detection algorithm, the quirky device reacts to people’s smile by changing one of its four faces from sad blue to a happier colour. Also, if four participants insert their faces through the portals and smile at the same time, an Ultra-Smile Mode is achieved and a rainbow emerges inside the bot’s belly.   
  
In order to make the Smile-Bot more approachable and to favour the discovery of other people’s faces within the bot, the team of designers opted for a wood shell and funny sound effects. All smiles are counted and captured through four cameras placed inside the smile planet.
