Earlier this month we featured a project called [Makey Makey](http://www.prote.in/feed/2012/05/makey-makey?ref=protein.xyz) that turns everyday objects into devices to control computers. Now designer Nilly Keyes is taking this idea even further this his [SketchSynth project](http://golancourses.net/2012spring/05/13/billy-keyes-final-project-sketchsynth/?ref=protein.xyz), and eliminating the need for three-dimensional controls altogether.

SketchSynth lets anyone create their own control panel with just a marker and a piece of paper. Once drawn, the controller sends Open Sound Control (OSC) messages to anything that can receive them; in this case, a simple synthesizer that uses programming software [Pure Data](http://puredata.info/?ref=protein.xyz). It’s a fun toy that also demonstrates the possibilities of adding digital interaction to sketched or otherwise non-digital interfaces.

We're interested in seeing what controls look like when mapped on preexisting artwork. Suddenly a painting by Pollack turns into the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.
