The NEC people thought it would be cool to make a [wine-tasting robot](http://www.collisiondetection.net/mt/archives/2006/09/robot%5Fthinks%5Fpe.html?ref=protein.xyz). The robot fires a beam of light into the wine, and then uses an infrared spectrometer to analyze the reflection. When a reporter's hand was placed against the robot's taste sensor, it was identified as prosciutto! we are doomed . . .
