Developed by [James Boock](http://jamesboock.com/?ref=protein.xyz) in response to the earthquakes that shook New Zealand in 2011, the [Quakescape 3D Fabricator](http://jamesboock.com/Quakescape-3D-Fabricator?ref=protein.xyz) draws attention to natural disasters in a unique manner.

Quakescape takes earthquake data provided by GeoNet and, by using Arduino technology and paint, transfers it onto a scaled down landscape of Christchurch, New Zealand. Different colours representing the magnitude of the tremors are pumped in precise locations and then allowed to move across the blank canvas to create dramatic visuals. By converting geological hazards into an art form, the designer aims to generate an emotional impact and create awareness about the boundless earthquakes in the Cantenbury region.
