Montreal multimedia artist, composer and performer [Martin Messier](http://www.mmessier.com/?ref=protein.xyz) has created an audio-visual installation that uses a combination of digital and analog to create a hypnotising, immersive sound and light-based experience.

Conceived for the [FutureEverything](http://futureeverything.org/?ref=protein.xyz) festival in Manchester, [Projectors](http://www.mmessier.com/projectors.html?ref=protein.xyz)is comprised of three 8mm projectors that are used predominantly for audio, complemented by two digital projectors that use striking light arrangements and image projections to frame the installation. The manipulated, distorted sounds from the three analogue projectors are played by unconventional instruments, coming together to create a loosely orchestrated, industrial sounding symphony.

Projectors is part of a larger series by Messier that aims to transform ordinary items into tools for creating glitchy, discordant soundscapes, as he previously achieved by [using sewing machines](http://www.mmessier.com/smo.html?ref=protein.xyz).

This haunting installation draws on an unlikely, unique source for musical composition, not dissimilar to [Forest Symphony](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2014/01/forest-symphony?ref=protein.xyz), creating sound by responding to climatic changes occurring to a monitored set of trees.
