Jeff Bezos, Chief Executive of Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has announced the company will soon start using drones to deliver goods to customers. The unmanned aerial vehicles would only take 30 minutes to deliver parcels and can carry up to 2.3 kilos - covering 86% of what Amazon delivers.

Bezos is currently waiting for permissions from US regulations, as drones are currently only used for police and governmental purposes. But [Prime Air](http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=8037720011&ref=protein.xyz), as the service will be called, is set to take off in the US in 2015 and in Europe in 2016, as Amazon stated that "from a technology point of view, we'll be ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place."

Just two months ago, researchers Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed a prototype project, [Skycall](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2013/09/skycall?ref=protein.xyz): a drone that acts as a guide to help navigate around complex urban environments or aid search-and-rescue missions. Prime Air is a daring move towards a sky full of mechanic carrier pigeons. CBS has called it Amazon's [boldest venture ever](http://www.cbsnews.com/news/amazons-jeff-bezos-looks-to-the-future/?ref=protein.xyz).
