[Mark Boulos: Mythology at ICIA Bath, Trailer](https://vimeo.com/123205101?ref=protein.xyz) from [Forma Arts](https://vimeo.com/formaartsmedia?ref=protein.xyz) on [Vimeo](https://vimeo.com/?ref=protein.xyz).

**Artist Mark Boulos investigates the phenomenon in his latest video project at the ICIA**

Unveiling his large-scale video at the [ICIA](https://www.icia.org.uk/?ref=protein.xyz) this week, artist Mark Boulos investigates the feeling of displacement and alienation in his project *Echo,*presented as part of his solo exhibition, [Mythology](http://forma.org.uk/programme/exhibitions/mark-bolous-mythology?ref=protein.xyz). In a bid to desynchronise time, the interactive installation allows the viewer to observe their “reflection” in a real-time 3D video.

Heavily inspired by the work of cognitive neuroscientist, [Olaf Blanke](http://lnco.epfl.ch/olaf.blanke?ref=protein.xyz), Boulos worked towards exploring the psychological state of belief. Utilising his documentary experience, *Echo* marks a significant advance in Boulos’ technical abilities, while continuing his interest in the notions of selfhood and how they can be challenged or subverted.

“With funding from the [Wellcome Trust](http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/?ref=protein.xyz), we began to develop an experience for the viewer of the work that would be interactive, placing their body and perception at the centre of the piece, says [Forma](http://www.forma.org.uk/?ref=protein.xyz)’s Founder and Artistic Director, David Metcalfe. “As a venue dedicated to interdisciplinary art, ICIA is a fitting host for an artwork that has from the outset developed through research and collaboration across many disciplines.”

As has been proved with [Flying Object](http://www.weareflyingobject.com/?ref=protein.xyz)’s interactive exhibition, [Tate Sensorium](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2015/03/tate-sensorium?ref=protein.xyz)and virtual reality art performance [Hakanaï](https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2015/04/hakanai?ref=protein.xyz), art institutions are turning to technology as a way of connecting with wider audiences. Going beyond the traditional, *Echo* epitomises a new direction for contemporary art.

*[Mythology](http://forma.org.uk/programme/exhibitions/mark-bolous-mythology?ref=protein.xyz) will be at ICIA, Bath from April 24 - May 31\. FREE admission.*
