Political Lace is a classically designed detachable collar with an in-built set of LED lights that flash every 7.5 minutes, the rate at which young women die during childbirth.

London-based creative technologist Melissa Coleman has developed Political Lace, a detachable collar that fuses fashion, technology and ethics offering an innovative way to bring attention to an issue that women around the world face.

The collar successfully fuses fashion, technology and ethics and offers an innovative way to bring attention to an issue that women around the world face. It also serves as a visceral reminder of the consequences of war, medical shortfalls and malnutrition.

The wearable technology market is forecasted to reach an estimated worth of £50 billion by 2025\. And though fitness trackers and health related wearables are most dominant, the millennial-led preference for contributing to socially responsible causes could mean that ethical wearables become a market that brands need to look towards in the coming years.
