# Magnetic Dresses

Pioneering Dutch fashion designer [Iris van Herpen](\"http://www.irisvanherpen.com/\") has collaborated with product designer [Jolan Van der Wiel](\"http://jolanvanderwiel.com/\") to create a line of dresses inspired by the forces of nature. Made from a mixture of iron filings, resin and fabric, the [dresses](\"http://jolanvanderwiel.com/Magnetic-Grown-Dress\") were 'grown' over three weeks using Van der Wiel's magnet-growing technique to 'pull' the dress fabric into shape. We've seen this technique used to create [furniture](\"https://www.prote.in/en/feed/2012/01/nothing-is-something\") before but this is their first foray into fashion.  
  
Its interesting to see fashion designers pushing boundaries and increasingly experimenting with technology and natural phenomena to create complex collections.
