Recently we've covered quite a few projects that make simple beats in non-traditional ways ([Dyskograf](http://www.prote.in/feed/2012/10/dyskograf?ref=protein.xyz), [Surface Sonification](http://www.prote.in/feed/2012/09/surface-sonification?ref=protein.xyz), [The Sound of Earth](http://www.prote.in/feed/2012/10/the-sound-of-the-earth?ref=protein.xyz), and [Graphics Speak](http://prote.in/feed/2012/09/graphics-speak?ref=protein.xyz)).

Officially titled SoundMachine, Mark Crosbie's beat sequencer continues the above tradition using some relatively simple software and hardware, and of course everybody's favorite building blocks.

After a simple sequence is laid out using square Legos, it's scanned and each respective colour is converted into a MIDI note. The sequence is then played in Ableton Live. Simple!
