The Java gang are getting “down” with the street kids as their new Java rings are being tested out in various high schools and colleges in the States. These nice little “ring pieces” are in essence a very personal Java computer that is “bonded to an individual by wearing it at all times as a carefully guarded accessory”.

These new age fashion geeks are using the ring to log onto networks, check-out library books or as knuckle dusters for any second grade kids that need bringing into line. The technology behind them automatically suspends applet execution on the expiration date unless the issuing authority can verify possession, is JavaCard 2.0-compliant to execute Java applets, has a high-capacity fast NV SRAM, supports multiple independent applications and the physically secure computer chip keeps keys private and executes public key algorithms for the safe exchange of information. So there. But, if you’re not into rings, you could also try setting up your own PAN \[Personal Area Network\] with a pocket server \[issue//072\] and one-inch TV \[issue//073\] to really f&\*k off your classmates.
