Japan's Sony has captured the title "best brand" for the fifth consecutive year and seventh time in 10 years, a nationwide US Harris Poll said. Coca Cola moved up from seventh place to No. 2, Dell remained in third position, Kraft was fourth and Toyota ranked fifth in the annual survey of best brands. Rounding out the best 10 were Ford, Honda, Proctor & Gamble, General Electric and General Motors. Microsoft, Kellogg's and Pepsi Cola dropped out of the top 10 in the 2004 survey. Harris Interactive polled 2,136 adults between June 10 and 16 asking them to choose the best brands from a list of companies. Three of the top brands were electronics manufacturers, four automakers and three consumer and package goods firms. "Our ability to sustain such high brand recognition consistently among consumers is a true testament to the innovation, creativity, and dedication of Sony employees around the world," said Tim Baxter, senior vice president, strategic marketing for Sony Corp. of America.
