The New York Times reports that Harry Potter's latest adventures have been making their way onto illegal download sites. In the same week that thousands of KaZaA and Morpheus users have been scared away by threats of legal action from the big nasty RIAA, it seems publishing is now facing the same internet piracy "threat" as the music and movie industries. The article notes, however, that the pirates involved don't seem to be on the make, just enthusiasts keen to distribute the book to countries where it was yet to be translated. It also says that when Palm approached Rowling's publishers about an e-book version, they were given the impression that the author, who has an estimated fortune of £280m, wanted a $1m advance.
